“Amar English Bangladeshi der moto hoye jachhe…”

I wonder what made him say that…such insensible, crass, thoughtless remark…but he spoke his heart though…well, I know he is great at committing a faux pas…such a gaffe on his part to actually verbalize it in front of me…whether he can be forgiven is debatable and is greatly dependent on his solar afflictions…

I know nicer people than him who would think just the same… It’s just that they don’t realize that they (most of them) originate from Bangladesh…and just because they migrated to West Bengal years back, doesn’t take their origin away…I mean, look at all the wannabe West- Bengalites…it seems even more pointless if we look at the world map as it was before 1947.

Don’t they realize that their own nation is full of Maru, Tamil, Bihari and Punjabi way of speaking alternative English? And they can’t even decide for one mother language… there’s a huge chunk of the people in India who detest Hindi, which is their official language…At least, we Bangladeshis are devoted to our language…we don’t have 10 other languages to choose from, ignoring the colloquial dialects…we are not so confused and utterly diverse about our language…we are so focused on Bangla, that we don’t mind sacrificing our own blood to keep it…

Generalizations are more often than not a fiction…

I don’t know one single teacher who can speak English perfectly accent-wise and/or grammar-wise in the whole college except for Dirty, who is not even entirely Indian… On the contrary, back in my small school in Dhaka, we had Mosharraf ma’am, Rafiq Sir (“You mustn’t do that”, he always said that and everything else in a perfect British accent), Tamara Ma’am, Rabeya ma’am and Haroon ma’am who spoke perfect and distinctive English…wrote even better…one could argue that they were all English teachers…but what about Shahnaz ma’am (my goddess-like Biology teacher, who was so full of humor, analysis and information…and all that in perfect English…many a times she corrected my wrong English…), Fahmida ma’am, Momin Sir (our eccentric, dynamic chemistry teacher famous for his flowery language…he is even good at inventing new verbs in English, like scissored!: “These topics have been scissored off from the syllabus”, he said…), Muntasir Sir (our ‘basically’ British brother…who taught us almost every science subject) and Sabrina Miss (our hottest science teacher with a perfect Canadian accent and the daughter of a diplomatic cipher…always warned us from making crank calls to her number since her dad will always find out!)? Even Kalam Sir (our Physics teacher, who boasted of having read all the translated-to-English novels by Russian authors…has a mildly obnoxious habit of scratching his itchy body parts in the class) was better than any teacher in our department over here…it’s sad that I complained his way of teaching that time…
I could go further and further on with the list…but never mind…

I can say this proudly now, Dhanmondi Tutorial always had teachers who spoke perfect English in a distinctive accent and students who had an American accent by default, considering that we all grew up watching MacGyver, The X Files, The Girl From Tomorrow, Dallas, The Wonder Years, Small Wonder, Due South and Dougie Howser, MD. Period.

I don’t know what pleasure these Indians have in debasing my small but valuable country…Just because they helped us a bundle in freeing our nation from the West Pakistanis, doesn’t mean that they have the right to remark anything intellectually illegitimate about our nation… We may have poor economy at the moment…and we might be just a small peck in the atlas…but there are Bangladeshis who are scientists and researchers in NASA and Bell Laboratories and the like…

I knew many people from my school getting admission to Oxford University straightaway…not if they spoke or wrote pathetically in English, I presume… But considering the way our NASA-ferot professor speaks in English, even that might be possible, one could argue…but it would be futile nonetheless…

this has got to be the most disgusting thing i've ever read in a blog. No, actually it exposes the immense inferiority complex and narrow-mindedness that is inherent to certain indivuduals. And its open for everyone to see and laugh at. how cud someone be so damn stupid to actually blow something like "Amar English Bangladeshi der moto hoye jachhe…” out of proportions. i think some soul-searching shud be advised...

hmmm... i dont know where to begin and what to elucidate on. simply because i could say a million things about your post. but what comes out most obviously is your immense insecurity about your country and your fellow country men. intelligent people are found everywhere in the world, be serbia, tibet, or bangladesh, so if your yardstick for proving your countrymen is that some went to oxford directly, score! oh! i cant remeber the name of that world famous mobel laureate from bangladesh, what was it? please tel me later. and your language skills imbibed from your school teachers are so distinct to us hearing it for the last one and a half years. and whats was that about bengalis coming from bangladesh, does not matter as i am not even bengali and can enunciate and pronounciate better than you, and i hate saying that in that way. but what to do, you have compelled me to do so. also, if your country does not have many things to choose from, thats a sad thing!!! but your country is the second most corrupt country in the world. and yeah, ne more thing, please tell your countrymen to stop infiltrating our borders and claiming to be indians, why cant they love their own country with its perfect CANADIAN accented people!

u never see the real me, do u??? i am always trying to alter myself according to ur needs, and more precisely, tailoring my accent, and in the process screwing it all up, for u ppl...it's not any of ur faults though, it's just the way it is...i might be a bit insecure about my country, what with its being the FIRST (not second)...lol...most corrupted country in the world...but u, my friend, is clearly xenophobic...and before i ask my countrymen to stop infiltrating here, I must go back myself...i.e. I must say that to myself first...and sorry, we dont love our country cos it's got the perfect CANADIAN accented ppl, but because we are all too simple and not so competitive as ppl here....we are not so mechanical in our lives...and we have plenty of natural resources; the fact that some ppl are wasting it is a different issue altogether...nowhere in the world the food and water taste as good as in my country...but again one could argue cos it's relative...

lol...the thing i found most amazing here was how u talk about the "proper" english in bangladesh spoke as if that's an achievement..on the contrary ..it is important that we speak english in our own twisted vernacular way..come on..even the oxford dictionary is including "samosa" as a word..and fuck an accent...i speak english the way i want to..anybody with a problem can suck my ****...the comment u mentioned was stupid..but harmless..but ironically ur defence is practically on the same lines..tryin' to actually prove that bangladeshis speak proper english and watch x-files..lol...come on ppl..and what's all this india vs. bangladesh bullshit?..both countries are filled with ppl that are completely moronic and useless..as this post evidently proves...there it is...the rapper has spoken..haha..

If we could categorise crap this post would be number one. This is absolutely by far the most absurd moronic bullshit that i have ever come across in a blog. What can i say ... if a monkey pressed the keyboard with his d*** the words would be more sensible.

the rapper has spoken well.

why is the author of this blog so hell bent on proving something good about bangladesh?we indians helped them get freedom from pakistan, and what do we get in return? bangladesh keeps on helping pakis train terrorists on their soil to attack india.repeated requests by the indian govt. is ignored by bangladesh.

Forget everything, the basic love for bangladesh and our country's faith on it has been lost forever because of this outrageous treachery.

language food etc etc.. where the hell do they come in? i would'nt trust any bangladeshi , i mean would you trust someone who you treat as a brother and help out and then he gives you a kick in the stomach and after that is hell bent on destroying you slowly ?

How does the author of this blog expect to prove anything good about bangladesh ? the most fundamental human emotion of TRUST has been broken by bangladesh.

and yet ,see how magnanimous we indians are ,who after being repeatedly accused so blasphemously by the author of this blog, happen to not kick her out of the country ,because she is a guest.

If you truly have to prove anything about bangladesh then 1st prove to us that you can be trusted. go back to your country and remove anti-india terrorist training camps from your govt's national agenda.till then, i am sorry to say, nothing you say is of any meaning to us cause we have to 1st feel that you are a person to be trusted before we actually listen to you.

There i spelt out the obvious to you, till then all we do is humour you, (its up to you to realize that we are weary of YOU) going blah blah blah about a country that has betrayed our trust so badly.

its a shame...

fix the situation and then you see what we think of you.

but seriously though.... you can tell a bangladeshi from an Indian or anybody else in a flash of second the moment he open his mouth to speak... no disrespect intended.... it just is... just like you can tell a Jamaican or East European or an Irish or even a Brit the moment they open their mouth... I see it all the time living in a multicultural environment...

see how it feels when anybody talks about ur own country???? whatever anonymous said is probably partially true but for that the government and some terrorist elements are responsible...NOT ALL THE PPL OF BANGLADESH....similar it wasnt to fair of me to put the caption Indians there....cos I DO NOT feel that all Indians are like that...it's just that I have faced a lot of subtle discrimination over here...I was hurt, hence the post!
and anonymous....why arent u brave enough to put ur name????
and for the part of fixing problems in my country, I am thinking about it...
It's interesting to see the reactions for this blog...it just proves that it's justified to feel hurt when anybody puts a finger on ur nation...ur very existence and root....

yes but its, true, gairk was being rather rude demeaning bangladeshis in front of a you on purpose- eh gairik?

nontheless equally irritating was that "indians" topic which attracted my attntion enuf to comment on it.

Ps: kindda sad actually ,your last comment actually makes sense, its hurtfull- this kind of discrimination i.e - and hence i shall agree with the argument that its your govt. n certain ppls fault(not all the ppl)- and leave it at a peacefull... cant judge a country by the actions of a few ppl, hence i take back that bangladeshi's cannot be trusted thiny.period

point to not though.... most major foreign university have a quota for people from developing countries... such as African Nations, Cambodia and Bangladesh. BEcause of the lack of opportunity in their own country... They are allowed in on much relaxed requirements and have to pay less fees... I am sorry to tell you... but your Sir probably got in through that scheme or something similar...
Sorry to bust your bubble

rajiv said...

ok that(above) wasnt mee:O lol

Delphic Oracle said...

bust my bubble? listen kid, decide first whether it is burst or bust...and anyway, that Sir is Indian...a professor of our very own college...they must have special considerations for Indian fellows in the States....

-i agree with anonymous who commented "why is the author of this blog so hell bent on proving something good about Bangladesh?"

im doctor mushfique, not an Indian n not a Hindu, i belong to Bangladesh but i would say Bangladesh is a garbage.this author is a crap, she once came to me & gave me link of her writings, may be she was expecting me to do some eulogy of her writing.but i was about to vomit after going through these shits.she is a mental & she wants to show that her English is better than others.what she writes has no head & tail, she thinks she does a great job by putting difficult words in her writings.cant she understand that anybody can do it by clicking on 'synonym' & choose difficult ones in ms-word?

i denounce such meanness that she owns inside her.no point of saying anything excess...'lol' is enough.

Delphic Oracle said...

DIFFICULT words??? when did I start writing DIFFICULT words??? perhaps the word DIFFICULT is difficult for you to fathom...I should use HARD then....but if it's too hard for you, then just NOT easy...Never mind! Oh by the way, you can also click on WordWeb and find better synonyms than MS word...might help u, since you r so obsessed about looking up synonyms...

Look DOCTOR MUSHFIQUE, my post might be crap, I may be the worst writer in the world...but you have no right to call Bangladesh a garbage...then u must be garbage as well...since u r a citizen of that country...You might be staying in Pakistan studying to be a doctor, and most aspiring MALE doctors are really screwed up in the head...frustrated...i completely sympathize with you...my condolences!

and wait a min...when did I COME to you and gave you my writings??? it's there on the net why wud i go to you??? Don't give such vague ambiguous statements...and first of all you sent me your WORD file of some story on which I will not comment much...only that it wasn't anything new, nothing original...but ur thoughts surely had the Euphoria young people have when they discover that there is no God...

and lastly, it is not my problem that u find no head nor tail in my writings...it's your simplicity and my ability to deal with complex literary structures that ur pea-sized brain will not comprehend...

thanks for posting though...keep posting! it's stimulating...food for the brain....LOL
